Upcycle – Recycle – Repurpose = Reduce Our Carbon Footprint
Upcycle, Recycle, and Repurpose and there are many other terms that say it in a different way, but mean the same.
Ultimately all of those terms are referring to help to preserve and save our environment by reducing our carbon footprint. By the way, the term carbon footprint, refers to reducing the amount of carbon dioxide and other compounds that are released into our atmosphere by the activities created from a company or in our daily lives individually. All of the references have an ultimate goal, which is to help preserve our environment.
To upcycle is creating something from an existing item previously used and turning it into something that is better than the original or is used for something else other than what was originally intended. This is found in home decor (see an article relating to this topic – The Art, Creativity And Budget of Eclectic Home Decorating), it is also seen in jewelry creation, outdoor gardening, electronics, and the list is endless.
To recycle is make previous items reusable to create something else. For example to recycle paper, saves trees and can be used to make something else. However, not always does the entire item have to be made into something else, but part of it can be used in another form with just a little alteration. An example would be taking a building that was used for one type of business, can be refurbished and used by a different type of business than what was originally occupying the building.
Repurpose is to take what was originally created and refurbish it to provide another look or another use, with minimal change. A good example an old watering can will make a great outdoor planter or an old whiskey barrel will make a nice decorative planter. Another good example is an old piece of furniture, can be refinished and apply some new handles or a different color of paint, which will give it a new look and make it reusable.
One just needs to have a little imagination and creativity to upcycle, recycle and to repurpose. By doing these things, it also saves you money.
As you can see all of these things we are doing now will help to preserve our environment. Therefore, our future generations will still have a planet to enjoy the smell of fresh air, nature, plants and animals.
