Reuse

Reducing Landfills

save on the cutting of trees, cut back on energy waste consider the reuse or re purpose within your family, home, and office.  Many everyday home and office items, tools, clothing, fabrics, and furniture can be reused with very little to no cost to you. If you cannot reuse something ask around to see if someone else can use it, sell it, post things online for sell or free on such listing sites as www.craigslist.comor check your community to see if they have their own community portal to post items for sell or for free.

Think of reuse as “Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Besides the reuse of items consider the reuse of food. Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year which equates to approximately 1.3 billion tons — gets lost or wasted. Reduce food waste by having left over night, potluck meals, have friend over and each bring their leftovers, or convert leftovers to make another dish.

Here are some ideas:

Chicken of any kind or style: turn it into soup, sandwiches, casserole, add to stir fry, and the list is endless.

Ground meat: make a meat sauce, use in spaghetti, turn into tacos or burrito fillings, add scrambled eggs, a bit of salsa and you have a great and healthy breakfast meal.

Cooked or uncooked vegetables: use in salads, eggs, soups, side dishes, add other seasonings to change the flavor, the possibilities are endless.

As a group we can reduce waste, we have to learn to adjust our habits, be creative, and think of ways to reuse or re-purpose.
