Organic

Organic

The term “Organic” references to food, products or any item made with out the use of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, pesticides, and antibiotics.  Things produced from the natural environment.

  • Over 50 million carbon-containing (organic) compounds exist and approximately 90% of newly founded compounds discovered or synthesized each year are organic.
  • Wikipedia defines organic foods as “foods that are produced using methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers, do not contain genetically modified organisms, and are not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives.”
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are gases from various liquids or solids and are often found as ingredients in household products such as paints, cosmetics, and cleaning products.
  • Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP) affect human health and our environment. What makes these deadly is they are airborne, uncontrollable, and can be passed from one species to another.

GMO

What is a GMO?

For further information on GMO education and information, please see the IRT – Institute for Responsible Technology, The Most Comprehensive Source of GMO Health Information on the Web.

GMO are genetically modified organisms, meaning, an organism whose genome has been altered by the techniques of genetic engineering so that its DNA contains one or more genes not normally found there. They are not organic, but are infused into our food for the profit of large corporations. The outcome for us, health issues and a poor quality of life.

How is a GMO Different from Hybridization / Cross-Breeding?

Genetic modification is the process of forcing genes from one species into another entirely unrelated species. Unlike cross breeding or hybridization—both of which involve two related species and have been done without ill effects for centuries—genetic engineering forcefully breaches the naturally-occurring barriers between species.
